Slide, Negative and Photo Scanning

Scanned one at a time, cleaned and cropped, and returned as files you can actually share. With the writing on the back captured if you want it.

What we scan

Priced per image on their own scale, separate from tapes and film.

Slides

35mm transparencies

Negatives

Film strips and single frames

Printed Photos

Prints of any size

Priced per image, on their own scale

Slides, negatives and prints are scanned individually rather than run through in real time, so they are priced per image rather than on the tape tier.

They are counted separately. Sending slides does not change the rate on your tapes, and sending tapes does not change the rate on your slides. If you are sending both, each is worked out on its own scale and both appear on the same invoice.

The writing on the back

We scan the back of a photograph on request, and it is worth asking for.

Names, dates and places written on the back of a print are very often the only record of who is in the picture. Once the print is separated from the file, that information is gone — and the people who could have told you are usually gone too.

If you are going to do it, do it all

The per-image rate drops by half between a small batch and a large one. Anything over 500 images is charged at the lowest rate, which is where a shoebox of slides that has sat in a cupboard for thirty years suddenly becomes worth doing properly rather than picking through.

What you get back

JPEG files, cleaned and cropped, delivered on a branded USB for $15, on a drive you supply, or as a Google Drive link.

Your original slides, negatives and prints are returned to you in the same condition they arrived.

Per Image Pricing

1 to 10 = $1.50 each

11 to 100 = $1.00 each

101 to 500 = $0.85 each

501 or more = $0.75 each

Counted on their own scale, separate from the tape tier. GST included.

Questions about photo scanning

Do slides count towards my tape price tier?

No. Slides, negatives and prints are counted on their own scale and priced per image. Sending slides does not change the rate on your tapes, and sending tapes does not change the rate on your slides.

Do you scan the back of photographs?

Yes, on request. If there are names or dates written on the back it is well worth asking for, because that information is usually the only record of who is in the picture.

Are the images cleaned up?

Yes. Slides, negatives and prints are cleaned and cropped as part of the scan.

What file format do I get?

JPEG, delivered on a branded USB for $15, on a drive you supply, or as a Google Drive link.

I have hundreds of slides. Is that a problem?

Not at all, and it is where the price drops furthest. Anything over 500 images is charged at the lowest per-image rate of 75c.

Do I need to count them exactly?

No. An estimate is fine on the order form. You are invoiced on the actual number once we have counted them here.
